The holders were made out of piping, about 30cm long, which had been welded to the side of the boat.

The art of creating Flies for Fly Fishing is done by tying hair, fur, feathers, and other materials together to create a natural looking artificial bug.

The flies are tied in many different sizes, colors, and patterns; usually matching the type of bugs which usually fall into a stream or river in a certain area. This fly can look like flies and small fry that the fish eats.

Fly fishing is different to normal fishing and has a thinner more delicate rod and heavier line. The first is the fly rod. It is stronger at the base than on the end and much longer than a normal spinning/casting rod.

Fishing For Jack Salmon In The Cold!

Fishing for Jack Salmon in the middle of January is not all fun and frolic. In the midst of the longest cold spell North Alabama has seen in decades, I was sitting in a boat in the middle of the Tennessee River freezing my toes. Jack Salmon, actually Sauger, seem to bite more in the coldest, grayest days of winter on their way upstream to spawn. This is the time of year they congregate below the dams in the river. I know for certain that there are plenty of Sauger in the tail waters of the Guntersville, Wheeler and Wilson dams because I have caught many of them in those waters. Though the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has dams in Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia, I know little of the Jack Salmon that have slipped through the Alabama locks and currently reside in Tennessee.

This particular morning I was attempting to pour coffee out of the Thermos into my cup without sloshing it over my bait and was trying to avoid tangling my line which was in the bottom of the ...see full article

Not Your Daddys Spinnerbait

BustinBass Not Your Daddys Spinnerbait

Few, if any, new innovative fishing lures are ever made. The majority of new lures are just resized or regurgitated lures already being produced. They are made to catch anglers and not fish. For BustinBass lures, it was going against the traditional way of thinking that sets them apart from the other spinnerbait manufactures.

In a revolutionary move, BustinBass has turned their back on the old, traditional two-dimensional spinnerbait to produce a new three-dimensional spinnerbait with multi-wire spinnerbait technology. Without a doubt, its not your daddys spinnerbait.
The history of lures goes way back to 1852 when the first patent was granted to Julio T. Buel. Apparently, Buel accidently dropped a tablespoon while fishing on a lake in Vermont and as it fluttered down, a lake trout ate it. After that incident, Buel began manufacturing the Buel Trolling Spoons; later, Buel began producing in-line spinners. In 1917, W....see full article

Tip One:

Select the right equipment. (Always use the lightest gear possible when fishing)

Some anglers make the mistake of fishing with too heavy a rod, reel, line or flies. Using the right equipment is very important.

So how can having something like the wrong line effect your fishing? Simple lets stick to my example of a line for the moment. Fly line is totally different to normal fishing line. Fly Fishing Rods

Choosing the right fly fishing rod.

Fly fishing rods are different from normal bait and spinning rods. The come in lengths of 7 foot to 15 foot.

Usually rods over 12ft 6in are "double handed" and used for salmon or salt water fly fishing.

Choosing the right rod for you should be your main priority when your learning to fish. You should always ask your self these questions.

First, how much am I willing to spend? Always keep this in mind as rods can range from a few dollars to thousands. If its your first rod then don't spend too much encase you find its not the hobby for you and your left sitting there with a brand new expensive rod used only once.

What am I going to be fishing for? Your rod should suit your target species. That means if its salt water or salmon fishing or even pike fishing you'll need a strong rod with heavy line. If its trout you want to fish for then a lighter rod and line will suffice.

Things To Consider When Buying A Fishing Bivvy

When purchasing a fishing bivvy they are many factors to consider to suit the individual angler's needs. We give you some top tips to look out for.

The centre pole which took up lots of room can now be removed completely leaving plenty of room for a bed chair and other tackle.

Most manufacturers now also offer an overwrap option to their umbrellas so you can quickly turn it into a bivvy with a roll up door if required.

Top Water Fishing Tips

I was fishing a small lake in central California back in 1980, I think it was that year. He was probably in his 50's or early 60's at the time and fished this lure different than I have seen before so I paid special attention.

Finally, after seeing him catch a half dozen fish while I caught two I asked him what ...see full article

Bait Fishing: Catfish Tips For Rivers Near You, Details Here!

You might be surprised there may be 30lb blue catfish or channel catfish or even a flathead monster in a river very close to you.

There are parts of small rivers and large rivers that change on the way riffles, holes, and runs always align them selves within the river systems. The key is being able to recognize a riffle because a hole follows down stream, and a run always follows a hole down stream. This pattern is never out of order in any river system. This seems simple but all three of these river elements change in size, in shape all along the river. Also what was identified this year as a good hole may or may not be there next year.

Once you start to recognize this distinct pattern on small or large rivers you can start to identify good holes that may hold populations of blue catfish and channel catfish and your bait fishing efforts will start to be rewarded with good catches of catfish.

Riffles will extend down river and will be shallow and have a hard...see full article

Fly Fishing And Fly Tying Basics

One may also have pliers, bodkins, floss bobbins, dubbing twisters, bobbin threaders, wing burners, whip finishers, and blenders. The old materials used in fly tying were threads, furs, feathers, yarn, tinsels, hair, wire, balsa and cork. Technology today has added other materials such as syn...see full article

Advice On Fly Fishing Nets

Author: Mike Day

There are lots of different types of fly fishing nets to choose from, the most common is the mesh type nets, some of these nets can damage the slime that is on the body of the fish, this can lead to the fish catching diseases, and your frustration trying to get the hook out when it gets tangled in the net.

I advise using a rubber type net, as this will protect the fish and ...see full article

The Attraction Of Specimen Pike Fishing

Back in 1653 Izaak Walton described the pike as the 'the tyrant of the rivers, or the fresh-water wolf, by reason of his bold, greedy, devouring disposition'. The pike has been subject of many folk tales over the centuries and the disappearance of many dogs, farm animals and even humans has been attributed to a monster pike said to inhabit the local lake or river.

It is this air of sinister mysticism surrounding the pike that provides its attraction to the sports angler.

It is Britain's biggest native freshwater fish and ranks also as one of North America's leading quarry. Catching the big one needs stronger rods, larger nets and clever tactics. Holding up this heavy beast for the camera makes the hunt worthwhile. Taking the hooks from the pike's mouth require strong equipment and a stronger nerve. A slip of the hand can result in deep and painful wounds that are easily infected. Many pike fisherman use a steel gauntlet of the type worn by knight...see full article

What Is A Dory Boat And How Can You Get One?

A dory boat is a boat steeped with history. A popular wooden fishing vessel in Newfoundland and parts of the United States in the 19th and 20th century, dory boats are still an important boat for modern day fisherman and wooden boat enthusiasts. Dory boats are built to be able to hand both rough waters and shallow water conditions. They are fairly small vessels, normally ranging between sixteen and twenty-two feet in length, and are characterized by a flat bottom and high sides. They historically relied on ores and sometimes sails for power, but in recent years have started being fitted with small outboard motors.

Fishermen have long loved dory boats because they are easy to maneuver, and they can be used in everything from the open seas to shallow creeks. They have a nice cargo capacity, despite the relatively small size, and they have been proven to be reliable sailing vessels in difficult waters and weather.

If you are interested in obtaining a dory boat,...see full article
